You’re planning your engagement session and might be thinking what do I do? This is a totally normal thing to feel, especially if you’re new to having professional portraits taken. I don’t want you to worry! Engagement photos should be fun and engaging! These are some quick tips I put together for you and your fiancé when it comes to your engagement session.
tip #1 Wear something you’re comfortable in
Pinterest is a great tool to utilize to find inspiration, but when choosing your outfit you should pick something that makes you feel good. Pick an outfit that is easy to move in. Pick an outfit that represents you! These are your photos and you should look at them and see yourself.
Quick tip for the ladies: Pants are great if you want to do more interactive prompts and dresses are great for elegance. When in doubt, bring both! Half of your session can be in your dress and the other half in pants!
Tip #2 Treat it like a date
It’s not everyday you get to take photos with a photographer! Have fun with it. Start at an outdoor location, finish at a bowling alley or your favorite brewery. Bring a charcuterie board and have a picnic! The sky is the limit. Maybe you met at an arcade or there’s a carnival near by?! Maybe you really like the lake and have access to a cute boat. All of these are great, unique options that will result in fun memories.
Tip #3 Great time for professional hair and make up
This is a great time to do a bridal trial with your hair and make up artist for your wedding. There’s just a different feeling about having a professional do your hair and make-up. It will give you an idea of what it would look like in the photos and you and your stylist can make changes if you need to! Your confidence in general will go up too!
Tip #4 Pick a location that is sentimental
It’s totally normal to want to rely on your photographer to choose a location, but if there is a place that is sentimental don’t hesitate to ask if photos at that place would be great. It’s important to remember that these are for YOU! I know I keep saying this, but seriously… if there’s a sentimental location, let’s utilize it.
tip #5 incorporate personal things like your pup!
Yes, bring your dog to your session! Your dog(s) are a huge part of your story. This might be one of the first commitments you two made. Bringing your dog would only make sense. If you’re worried about them being a little crazy, we can plan shorter times with them and then let them wait in the car.
I hope that was helpful! Let me know what questions you have in the comments. Most importantly, head over to the contact button, fill out the form, and we can start planning your session!
